Hi Again,
This is not a dug find (or at least not dug by me). I am having trouble figuring out what this coin is. I am guessing that it is a coin from one of the German States but I don't know for sure. Here is what I can read on it.
The obverse appears to have a bird (a thunderbird or something). I cannot make out hardly any of the letters on the front. I can make out SCHEI in the 7:00 position (if I have the coin right side up).
The reverse, in the middle of the coin is the number 1 with 1860 underneath and the letter A under that. It appears to have a wreath going around the outside.
Here are the pics of this coin.
One question about cleaning this coin. It appears to be made of copper and doesn't appear to be fragile. If I soak this coin in olive oil, is there a chance it might break up the black gunk on the surface? It is covering the bird and a lot of the letters on the front. How long do you soak a coin?
Thanks for the help on this one.
Doug
