I did a 7 hour solo hunt on the land Cru'dad scouted the other day. I managed to grid the whole site & went over all the land Cru'dad had covered. Popped out a few more deeper coins.

25 Romans (Best 1 day total from this field)
Blank hammered
1806/07 Penny
Roman Nail
Broken Silver Saxon/Viking Clothes Fastener (My first of this type & declarable):icon_thumright:

can you pinpoint a more accurate date for the silver clothes fastener? Great find! :notworthy:

The clothes fastener is a fantastic find. Still a beauty.
I like to think it broke off in half from the clothing, rather than the plough, but who knows?

I assume then the ears had broken off as they are the weakest point. But as you say: Who knows? At least it wasn't one with a griffin/dragon. That had been a heartbreaker.

7 hours straight thats the spirit! Id love to find a field here worth gridding for 7h. Awesome finds!

I had a 10 minute (not included in Detecting time) Lunch break.

We do plenty of 7 hours days at harvest time, but most are normally 4-5. Although I've been known to do 11.

Excellent pin Cru. Amazing piece and WTG with so many scrappies

I've always enjoyed your posts, I have no idea what I'm looking at as far as age is concerned but man that stuff looks waaaaay older than anything over here in the US, killer stuff!

THANKS EVERYONE.

Congrats on breaking your Roman
Coin/day find.

Wonderful finds there Crusader. What is the large item pictured with the blank hammered, and Saxon/Viking clothes fastener, is that the 1806/7 penny or something else. I also have to tell you, that I don't even know which item is the Roman nail?

Its a Follis of Magnetius.
The Penny is next to the 2 tombac buttons.
The nail is picture 1, top left.

Great hunt! I love the old coins. :occasion14:

That clothes fastener is exquisite!
