Nice find IP, is it in tact it looks like something is missing or broken at the top in your first pic, or is it just my imagination?

Yes, there is a break at the top but no idea how much is missing. (Was my friend's find)

Seeing a picture it is a very good match for a French escutcheon, just not as solid as the others I've seen dug.

Wrist escutcheon (aka "thumb piece"). Great find. I have my initials on mine.
