Nice find. I'd clean it up and reuse it, also.
Providing a date for it might require a much closer scrutiny on such a universal item, though ?

$4.95 with one day shipping, fill in quantity wanted:

Is it 2 inches or 2 feet long?

The type of screws (fasteners) may help date it.

100 years or older at least. It's easy just look at the patina. It's been underground for a long time.

? ? ?

:/

I cannot help but chuckle... the person who is posting anything and everything of a common nature in the "what is it" forum in hopes of identifications is now with a definitive response posing in an authoritative nature.

heh.

Door handle... even used on screen doors.

Age = versions still produced today... yours... 1950's IMO.

Looks like an old filing cabinet drawer pull.

I'd leave it alone and not clean it. I'd say first half of the 20th century due to the good construction method for it.

PS... they were also used with boats... sailboat doors etc... oh and before i forget... those were made of bronze. (which yours looks more bronze like than brass)

Here is a screw down verson.

Yours in "through" version that had another plate or side.

I appreciate the input!

But... I'm not hell-bent on figuring this out. If you know anything about this I'd love to hear about it. I looked at about 300 of these trying to get a rough date, If it has some history I was willing to repurpose it. No biggie. I hate to discard it, it's a substantial piece of metal.

The suggestion of "Bronze" is valid. I polished a small area, it didn't have that brass "pop" that looked like gold. It was a more muted color that I would say could be bronze.

Again, thanks! I understand this is something that's junk, there's a million variations. My hope was that someone would recognize it and would chime in.

Not junk. I found one of those in aluminum years ago, and recently gave it to a friend to put on his barn door.
