Re: Soldier statue: Any ideas about it?

He is a Zouave soldier.

From Wiki
Zouave was the title given to certain light infantry regiments in the French Army, normally serving in French North Africa between 1831 and 1962. The name was also adopted during the 19th century by units in other armies, especially volunteer regiments raised for service in the American Civil War.

Re: Soldier statue: Any ideas about it?

~ I found this as a result of [tricky] :hello: Tikikiwi's identification of the soldier ~

French Bronze and Brass Mantel Clock, circa late 19th century.

The top with a figure of a Zouave and his rifle, on a brass base, the central enamel clock face marked "Au Couturie," flanked by inset white marble panels with relief decoration of brass crossed cannons centering wreathes, the whole on pierced relief decorated scrolled feet.
13 1/2" High x 15 1/2" Long x 6" Wide.

The base appears to be aluminum, but the soldier appears to be bronze. There are no casting markings on the base.

I was told it was a "Foreign Field Soldier", but that's all I have to go on.

Thank you for you help,
Bill

You fellows were a GREAT help!! Thanks so much.
