Hi,

I am a new member and this is my first post.

I found an item at a flea market. It is a binder which appears to be a series of notes which were recorded by the secretary for the Society of the War of 1812. It contains about 175 to 200 articles/notes/receipts etc in the binder all of which are in chronological order from the year of 1903.

Some of the more notable items are:
1. Letters discussing the letterhead designs for the club
2. Letters regarding Lapel pin design
3. Letters from some Colonels, Generals and Captains

I extracted some notable information from the letter heads that I have not had a chance to research yet, because I wanted to get this post on here first.

Here is the research items I extracted. There are probably more than this, but this was a good first pass:
society of the war of 1812
  • general society of the war of 1812
  • ny state library
  • pennsylvania society of the sons of revolution
  • russell convention dates in newark nj

  • department of insignia the baily banks and biddle company
  • record and pension office, war department
  • dr L napoleon boston
  • department of the interior, beauro of pensions
  • william herrick griffith - fire agency

  • major m.w. wood, us army
  • at the citadel, charleston south carolina
  • republican county committee, madison avenue new york
  • the cg braxmar co, manufacturing jewelers

I had a couple of questions:
1. Is there a standard price for pre world war 1 letters
2. What do you think the whole binder is worth?
3. Should I try to sell some of them individually or the thing as a whole.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

Until someone pipes in - I would start is by jumping over to General Society of the War of 1812 and letting them know what you found - bet they could help ya out.

Selling them individually would probably not significantly increase your return, but would definitely increase the time/effort you put into selling them. However, checking with a ephemera expert might say otherwise. Selling this as a lot, would probably do well at a auction house that specializes in this type of thing. However VP's suggestion should be checked out, they may even be interested in it themselves. Good Luck!
