...soda, torched with nitric acid and this is as clean as I can get this stupid thing to look. Anybody know what it is? Vintage something. Definitely copper exterior. Back side sticks to a magnet. I'm think belt buckle or power socket? I don't know. Thanks.

I'm not sure what that thing is...

But NASA did another flyover while you were dumping acid on it.

I see by the smoke plume you were using the full strength stuff again.

I'm with the above!! It's a lock part... Yale & Towne ....Y&T inside what looks like a clover is their mark.

What type? I haven't found a match. I'll try to link a pic that shows the company mark.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yale_(company)

After exhaustive research (at least 10 min.) I have come to the conclusion that it's a treasure chest lock! :laughing7:

The company did make travel trunks or at least had their locks on them, Or maybe even a lock off of an old "man purse" (Don't know what they are actually called:laughing7:)! Satchel? type bag where that was mounted on a leather strap even?Document bag(?) Maybe? The twist looking knob reminds me of a bag or something that I've seen in the past somewhere on something. Can't remember what it was.......

Can't seem to go as long as when you was 25, eh?

No, my hand gets tired......from typing, can't see straight,Battery is old and dies quick, and the lap top screen falls down a lot too, it doesn't want to stay up turn around or bump it and it fallls!!! I think the hinge is wore out or something!:occasion14: Last time I used a support for the Electronic Display(ED)? ..............Ok ok..I'm all out of material, and forgot where I was headed with all of that already! I gave it a shot though! Plus she's punching me in the arm calling me names as I type! Computer problems! Sheeesh!!!!

Not really! Just some twisted humor! I don't even use the laptop anymore!:laughing7: I think I forgot how it even works!

Yep definitely the old Yale & Town logo, unfortunately I dont have my old lock books with me. My guess its an old drawer cabinet or chest lock. Its brass.

If I can make a suggestion, pic out all that ferrous corrosion inside the keyhole, as the shape of the key should help date it. If I had my book I could tell you more.

Do you mean a briefcase? Looks like a turn lock w/the turn part (technical term lol) missing.

I had something similar on one of my old handbags. Can't locate it at the moment...

Here's an old Y&T catalog https://books.google.com/books?id=d...AA#v=onepage&q=yale & towne turn lock&f=false

Was there any wood or leather remnants attached to it when you found it? Might be a clue

Yeah, there was some wood attached to it. That came off with the muriatic acid. I'm thinking I should have detected the area I found this thing a little harder. Normally people lock things for a reason.

Okay. I tried to take BCH's advice and "pick at it" with a file. After breaking the second one I had a little road rage and went after with a dremmel. That is right...a dremmel. When I was done I reapplied nitric acid just fo fun. This is as good a look as I can get.

about 2.5 inches wide. There is an earlier pic with a nickel for reference. Didn't actually measure it.
