Hello All. Dug in the woods by some long gone small town houses c1900 to 1950's, near the RR trx. All brass except for the iron innards and ~ 4 x 2 x 3/4 - IN.

Seems well made and hand assembled, you can see where the pins for the handle were peened in place.

I am thinking it's too small for a house door latch...maybe it's for a trunk or window?

Seems old...Victorian? Art Deco? Art Nouveau? El Junko?

Thanks for the view and any info.

Good Luck out there. C9

Please post a picture of the back.

Hello fyrffytr1. Thanks for the reply. Here are back pics.

Don't think it's for a door as masterjedi suggests...seems too small and there are no "knocker marks" on it. C9

Looking at others shown in google images under "antique ice box hardware", I get the sense that the keyhole was more for looks than functionality.
I would guess that there is no actual lock/unlock mechanism inside, just a spring latch.

You can buy them with keys ,they lock. I would guess those locking type were used at businesses.

Hello 'taz. Nice call on the icebox...I have found several ice box hardware pcs but never one this ornate...must have been in the heyday of iceboxes...short time I bet. Thanks for info and Good Luck. C9
