These are Angelitos, or Velvet Mites, Angelothrombium species. They attract attention when they emerge following rains. According to Hogue: "The larvae are parasites on grasshoppers and adults are predators on subterranean termites." Velvet Mites are not poisonous and pose no threat to humans.
