so, after seeing the last banner post, I went back to my 'museum' and took a better look. These two coins came from an long gone cabin site along the Sullivan Trail here in the Finger Lakes. A new winery was going in and they had demolished the newer house © 1800. While checking shale stone area, possibly the original cabin site, I dug the 1794 large cent. then went back the next day and dug the 2 reale. Spanish silver is not that unusual here, as I have dug 6 or 8 of them. I could barely make out the '24 on the coin as it is struck slighly of center. then looking at it today, I noticed the 'mint error' of the reeded edge of a second coin on the bottom. Were these all hand stuck at that time? Also the mint mark is an A. the back does seem to be centered.
The area where this was found was known as a Seneca village that was burned by Sullivan in 1779. this coin is in rather good condition for being in circulation for more then 55 years and I would like to believe it was worn by one of that village. I haven't found any other native artifacts, but we know-'No place is ever hunted out'
