So many firsts for me I cant put them all in the title. "Updated info on watch"

Hi everybody!! :hello: What a day to be metal detecting. I called my ole buddies Dave and Greg in Indiana to see if they were hunting today and to my surprise they were already on the road. We talked about where we were going to hunt, them in Chicago and I in NOLA. As we were getting off the phone they both reminded to GO SLOW with the etrac. I told them I would and that was the best advice I had all day!!!! I met up with Ken NOLA, and two of his friends, Ryan and Max to hunt a park in New Orleans. It was a nice day to be hunting. I got there a little early and hit a spot I had hit yesterday. I got a wheatie and some clad. I got a text from Ken and he told me where they ended up. I drove over and met him and Ryan, introductions were made and then off to do more detecting. We hit a spot that was trash laden. It was ugly. I got a few wheaties and some clad but with every swing there were many unwanted targets. I decided to move over to an open spot. I got a broken high tone but it was deep, 8 inches. I dug down and got my first indian of the year. It was a 1902. A few minutes later I got my first barber dime of the year, 1903 O. That was also my first New Orleans mint mark ever. When I first started off really finding silver, I wanted to find that one and the CC. It was fitting that I found it in the big easy. I was thinking this aint too shabby. About an hour later in the same area as I was swinging the coil at a snails pace, I got another indian. This one was a 1901. One foot over, I got my second barber, 1892. Right before lunch, I got a signal that sounded like an indian. Ken was there as I had called him over to hear it with his machine. I dug down and dug my first ever musket ball. When I saw it, I thought it was a clay marble. But when I picked it up I knew what I had found. I told Ken, I had never found one of these or a clay marble, that was going to happen later. Ryan had to go so we took a break and ate some lunch, moved to another spot and went back to digging. It was another trashy trashy spot with hardly any targets worth digging. ALOT of can slaw. But, I got a signal that sounded like an indian at 6 inches and dug up a bullet. I didnt really think about it except it was deformed and was big. I realized when I got home I had dug my first 3 ringer. About 4 PM Ken and Matt had decided to call it a day. I told them I was going back to the spot I had found the barbers for a little while. We said goodbye and off I went. I started to hunt near the spot but wanted to hit under an old and I do mean OOOLLLDDD oak tree. I got a broken high signal at 4 inches. I figured it was a memorial but decided to dig it. Glad I did. I got my first seated dime of the year. 1875 S in very nice condition. I went around the tree and then back to the barber area. I hadnt hunted this particular spot to hard so I was going slow and making sure my coil was overlapping some. I was rewarded. I got a nice solid quarter signal at 8 inches. I was very careful as I had scratched one of my barbers earlier. I dug a big plug and after some additional digging I saw a watch. I thought damn, it’s a Timex. I looked at it and realized it was a small but complete sterling silver pocket watch with intact glass and face. I had never dug one of these. I was impressed. After a few minutes I got another strong quarter signal. I was thinking alright this is it. It turned out to be a piece of thick copper but on top of it was my first clay marble. I was very pleased that even though I didn’t get the quarter, I had another first. I got one more good signal for the day. I got yet another quarter signal that bumped up to a half on the etrac. It was showing at the bottom of the scale and it was breaking up a little so I knew I had something deep and maybe silver. I dug a nice solid plug and it was still in the hole. I dug down 9 inches and out popped this silver coin. I thought hell that is bigger than a quarter, but seems to be smaller than a half. I cleaned the back off and saw the coat of arms and the word Hispan. I knew that I had a reale. It turned out to be a 2 reale. I couldn’t believe it. I turned it over praying for a date. It was there in all its glory. 1797. I have never found a reale and I had finally broke into the 1700 club. I made one more pass and then headed back to where I am staying. I called Ken and told him of my finds. He was shocked. I called Dave and Greg too to let them know as well. It turns out they had a pretty good day too. Well sorry for the long story but with what I happened today, I wanted to share it. Thanks for reading and HH!! TMAN…

Well Done. :icon_thumleft:

Re: So many firsts for me I cant put them all in the title.

congrats on the nice mix of finds! Are you sure that's only a half real? Half reales are about the size of a current dime. On the back, there should be the letter "R" if you see a "1R" or a "2R", that means it's a 1 real or 2 reales.

Great story and great finds. Thanks for sharing

So envious! What a bunch of great finds!!

Re: So many firsts for me I cant put them all in the title.

It was definitely a good time, and congrats again on those finds. I really like the watch, and the reale.....well what can I say. Funny thing, we talked about how dry the ground was all day, and it just poured rain tonight.... I might have to head back over there tomorrow.

Glad to have finally met up with you, and I look forward to our next hunt. I see a lot of digging in the future :icon_thumleft:

Re: So many firsts for me I cant put them all in the title.

That is one of the more unusual silver trifectas I've seen posted here.
Okay, 10-10-6 and 1/4, but close enough.
You need to pop that watch open and see what it says.
Very nice hunt!

Thank you for the information on the reale, testing. I looked on the back this morning and it is a 2 reale. Just goes to show you how much I know about reales.

I dont want to mess with it. I would probably destroy it. LOL. I plan on finding a watch repair here locally or in Baton Rouge to see if its worth a refurbish. I dont have high hopes but since it is complete, it wont hurt to check.
