Did you just ask a question that you, yourself answered?
I know what it's like.
"Man, are we going hunting?"
I say to myself.
"I don't care, sure."
I answer.
Yep, it's a rockin party, 24/7 up here in the Lowbatts skull-atorium.
Back out to the FP for me, if the dog training entrance isn't open, I'm going to Penny Road Pond and hoofing it in on the ridgeline SW of the pond. Here's how it looked 70 years ago.

TreasureFiend,

Count me in.

Greets! - first post in a long long time. I'm in the South Elgin area. Would love to meet up with anyone else in the area - although the full time retail job limits my weekend days off most of the time. I usually get two days during the week, sometimes one weekend day off. If anyone's looking for a hunting partner with no predictable schedule, hey that's me! I get a week or two advance notice which days I have off. Keep me posted and maybe we can get together. Right now I know I have May 11, 13, and 14 off.

sunday is mothersday, love my ma to much ignore this one.......hey mayo, just keep watching this section,we're always going out, your welcome to join up at your convienence.get a hold of contractor he in elgin also

Hey Mayo, the wife and the kid got the two cars during the week unless I speak up ahead of time. Let me know when you get your next day off, we'll hook up and hit the dirt.

I had a little time to detect on Wednesday, so I went looking for places.
There's some ball fields near the motor vehicle place and past the ball fields there's lots of open land.
I went down towards the highway detecting around older looking trees.
Didn't find much with the detector but noticed at least two places that someone had spent some time camping out or being homeless. The person may have been homeless but they did use toothpaste. Found some Oakley shades that were probably dropped while climbing the chain link fence that separates the land from the highway drainage. Grass was already too high to detect in and my Minelab Explorer XS doesn't have the weed wacker feature.

So I went in search of something/somewhere else and wound up at an abandoned watch case company.
The building itself is fenced off and has Private Property signs on the chain link but the parkway all around it is accessible. So far (I only worked about 20 feet) I only found coins from the 1970s but the company has been there since the 1890's so I bet there's stuff to be found. I could use some pointers on getting this detector programmed - I have tried to make it learn and reject various items but it seems like most of my time is spent digging trash.

If any Elgin area people want to check this place out, let me know here or email me.
My next days off are 5/22 and 5/23

Went to DMV yesterday and saw the work going on at the continental league park down at the riverside. Thought I'd check it out this weekend, no car today. Did you hit the sidewalk/curb work on Walnut? It's right around the corner up 31 a bit.

The old watch case company you spoke of was the Waltham Watch Case Company, before it became Simpson Electric. Got some great electronics out of there when they were closing up and throwing out their test stuff. In front of the building on Dundee Ave. you would only find a burnt debris pile including old meter panels and analog dials and lots of RIO (rusty iron objects) trust me, been there done that. Worked the parkway on the south side of the building last time street/sidewalk work was done there and came away with some nice silver. There's an old dumb waiter inside a now lightly armored room. Inside there, the gold room. This is where they stored lots of gold (saw some record books of old) used in the manufacture of products there over the years. Couldn't find anything in there or in the adjoining areas on upper or lower floors when I did get to search the building but I'd love to get into the elevator shaft and see what kind of droppings if any are left down in what is a dark deep and cramped area. Very dangerous huntsite though.

So, what do you know of Coleman's Grove and Gypsy Landing Grasshopper?
