We got a couple inches of snow but I had the day off so I had to get detecting. I went back to one of my favorite French (Acadian) sites and spent the entire day and almost got skunked. The only find worth posting is this ferree, or French dyking shovel. I've found a couple of these before but neither was in half the condition that this one is in! Shovel is early 1700s and was instrumental in the development of this area. The Acadians built thousands of miles of dykes in Nova Scotia so that they could take full advantage of the land for farming. Many of these dykes are still in place and it was shovels like this that made those dykes.
