Snow Hunt #13....What ID's As A Coin Is Not Always A Coin.....

First 2008 hunt got me some goodies. It was supposed to get up to zero, but that never happened. It was a nice day for a hunt non the less. :)

Go figure....you hunt near a skating ring where kids play hockey, and you are bound to find a hockey puck. Here is the loot, junk and jewelry found today.

"What ID's As A Coin Is Not Always A Coin....." This bracelet was found down a couple of inches in the sand. Its from Mexico....a place that I would love to be. Inside is a stamp "ALPACA" which is also called German Silver or nickel silver. It is often confused with silver, often made in Mexico, and made of mostly copper with nickel, zinc and tin .... but it has some beautiful inlay of mother pearl. My daughter fell in love with it, so, mother like daughter, she gets to keep it.

Below is sunset in Edmonton....just in time to order a nice hot pizza!

Looks extremely cold!!!!!! Does the cold affect your detector?

Many also pass up great targets because the stupid detector calls it trash.

Nice finds John.
You know, I really am trying to comprehend how you brave detecting in this sub - zero climate! I work & drive for miles in this weather & still haven't mustered up the courage the try winter detecting in the Peace area! I guess I'm still holding on to pieces of warmer climates from my past.
Keep up the faith John, you are bringing hope to those who dare to imagine! ;D

If I don't tape tot pacs against the back of the digital screen or on the batteries, the battery voltage drops quickly. Also, if the screen is too cold, there is a delay for the information to show up. Co, with the CX, you have to slow down a bit so you don't miss any targets.

David! Good to hear from you ;D. You got to put on the long-johns, gloves & toque and pic your spots very carefully! Hope you had a good Christmas. All the best in the new year too bud!

Merry Christmas and a good New Year to you and yours John.
Must take a while to dig through the frozen ground eh! I suppose breaking through frozen grass would be a no no!
Do you use a pick? or chisel/hammer combo? ;D
I will have to ponder this one over.
These days I've been hopping through the oil patch, I,m caught in the rut of working too much. Oh well that's how is for now, glad to here you're still enjoying this great detecting hobby/photography. That sure is a cute Yeller Feller!

Oh yes, I did find a good spot to detect, scads of clad, but also is lots of lawn, wouldn't want to Pick that apart (pun intended).

Good to pop in from time to time and see all the new postings, still learning lots from the forum.

Thanks all, God bless in the New Year!

This is the reason I've returned to using a Tesoro for general coin/ring hunting.

In ground targets fool all meters.
