One of the things I like to do is go through the boxes of old photo's found in antique stores. I came across a bunch that had old shots of Washington DC and some were handwritten with a blue ink pen with some info of the photo and a few with the date June 1943. This 5-1/4" x 4" B&W photo is handwritten on the back, "Science Research Lab Anacostia D.C. Movie Stars etc.(no info as to who these people are). I would say the tall fellow 4th from the left-back-row is Jimmy Stewart, but that's just my opinion for now. As for the other people or so called movie stars in the photo, I've no clue just who they are?... I would say the photo was out of a personal collection that someone took of a trip to Washington D.C. in 1943. I also purchsed other photo I liked of D.C. from the collection.

Nice pics Bramble & Surf :icon_thumright: I'll update my pic.

The efforts you put in to solving the story of the photo have been neater... Your a jewel Breezie, I sure hope your having fun working on it? It was funny when I took it to the counter of the Antique Mall. I said to the lady I paid, I think I just found an old photo of Jimmy Stewart in that box of old photos. She was totally unimpressed, but I sure was excited.

Agree. Patricia Morison.

I still think the guy in the middle is Frank Knox. The picture is labelled Science Research Lab Anacostia. It should say Naval Research Lab. Knox was Secretary of the Navy in 1942 and a big player in Washington. He was VP on the Republican ticket in '36. Appointed by FDR as Sec of the Navy because of his outspoken support of FDR foreign policy. I think the guy in the pic is too old to be Frank Brisson and does not look enough like Senator Radcliffe.

Mostly this just confirms the list of names. There are a couple of additional ones though:

It looks like Patricia Morison has a Facebook page. Why don't we try to get in touch with her and see what she says about the photo? Wouldn't THAT be a kick!

Thank you! Surf, I so enjoy this kind of stuff. I'm more then convinced anyone looking for treasure will find a treasure and it doesn't need to be of great value or significant historical importance. If the treasure hunter finds something that gives them a feeling of delight they found a true treasure. This site is sure pure enjoyment, but as I write this now I'm getting info over the TV of a possible shooting at a school here in Colorado. Wish everyone would go out looking for treasures. The kind one would find in a field and sell all they had to buy that field and put in their hands the true treasure we're given in life. Crazy world these days :(

Not sure how I count these question marks you mention?

tamrock,

Any chance you can post the other photos you got? I just want to see what other things the photographer thought was important enough to photograph at the time.

Thx

I've have really enjoyed this post. It has helped me more than I have helped it. With all the stresses going on this time of the year, it was a wonderful break for me to get my mind involved in this photo and not on the Christmas/Holiday madness! Since we're on page 4, I'll delete my other post, and re-post the pic on this page, and will try to update as best I can. Again, if anyone wants to correct/add/or whatever to the names, feel free to do so.

:)

Per your request...Photo's seem to be typical tourist shots. I gave a sepia tone on them as it may highlight the pic's for show, or so it seems to me....Note: Last picture of buildings says just Greenbelt, Md on the reverse same handwriting I believe?

I've been enjoying this also...I loved the stars & movies they made. Just not the same these days. Oh, I still believe that is Gene Autry in the 1st photo, far left. The clothing matches per the 2nd pic. A few short years ago we played a guessing game with older stars...it was so much fun.

Thanks to DCMatt's guest list, above, I now think the woman with eyes closed may be Michel Morgan:

I don't believe that Senhorita Eros Volusia is in the picture, but here's her Life cover, anyhow:

Below is the updated-updated-updated photo. :laughing7:

RR, I added Gene Autry on the far left.

I also added Gene Raymond.

I haven't seen Danny Thomas name anywhere, so we need to try to figure who he is. I'm thinking it could be Paul Winchell, which also has the same dark features and it would also explain the dummy, but Winchell would have only been about 20 yrs. old and would not have 2 parking places on his forehead/hair.

:)

The one list shows a Michelle Morgan Volusia, But Michelle Morgan and Miss Volusia are two different people, that explains why I couldn't find a picture. Nice update Breezie, but I still think Rita Hayworth needs to be changed
