I found this snap button at a local homesite and was wondering if anyone here might be able to ID the maker and age? There are two stars on either side of the hole and, after close scrutiny the objects on top and bottom are trains. The one on the bottom is right side up and the one on top is upside down so,if the button is rotated there is always one train situated correctly.

I do not know, but have one minus the trains which has the stars. Found about a quarter mile from rr track placed in 1851. charleston to Memphis. Best of luck.

My first thought was, it's an overalls button/rivet with the iron center rivet portion missing. :icon_scratch:
Now granted, these are all examples of new overall rivets, but you get the idea.

Unfortunately, I've no idea who may have made your example.

Thanks for the replies. It is an iron back. I figure the spring clips that would have held it on a stud have long since rusted away.
