Oh NO! That's not a mushroom...that's a liberty cap! You have a real winner! Quick...let me get my book!

AND...There is a very similar button in Albert's book, your button is a little different. Probably very late 18th century to first quarter 19th century.

Did you dig it? It's ULTRA rare and therefore ULTRA expensive.

It's a great find. In all the Rev War sites I have been to, and know about, none have ever been found there. The rattlesnake buttons are non military patriotic buttons, and most 1790-1820 or so. The way yours is manufactured, I'd say about 1801-1820.

My mom found a 1801 one cent piece today right near this so id say the time era fits!

The market would set the price, but 4 figures. Some days you can't sell snow cones in Florida when it's 95 degrees, and other days you sell out in 10 minutes. Just depends on who wants it, and what they are willing to pay. And the prices just keep going up. I would keep it if you don't need the money right now. The same Civil War button I could buy for $10 back ca 1990 is now about $150. Just saying. The Cat has a long memory, and sometimes I even remember things correctly!

Im gonna keep it forever. Its a very cool piece of history. Ive been finding alot in a very small area. I think about 14 buttons in a 12x12 area at this point and a figure 8 bayounet buckle. Its been really fun so far. Im new to this as of 12/19 so im lucky to have found so much

Not often a found button comes along and generates the kind of excitement I see beginning to transpire here. I'm not very knowledgeable of old buttons, but it seems this one has some historical significance along with rarity. :icon_thumright:

The equivalent of one of the rarer types of Washington Inaugural buttons.

On your best day, several thousand, always subject to who wants one and at what time. If the big players already have one, the market may be very small at a higher price.
