Smallest lead ball i ever dug , pistol or shotgun ?

Hi all iam not sure what this lead shot is from it,s tiny about a 1/4 inch in dynamiter maybe a 10ga. bird shot or a early pistol round ? has anyone ever dug one this small it was 6 " in a plowed field amazing i even found it Thanks for any help Dd60

is dropped in a tower.

That is a 32 caliber pistol ball. 32
was quite common.

It looks like,,,,,,,

I can see the casting line and
even the place where the excess
was cut off.

They didn't come out of the mold
exactly round. they had to be rounded
on a rock.

Here is a 38 caliber pistol ball cast in
1965 by the Sons of Confederate
Veterans. David O Dod Camp in LR,
AR, (maybe me. I was there)

Look close. Is there a ring around it?
Is there a little knob on one side?

Yes that is it exactly it has a ring around it a little worn off but it is there and the knob on one end so it is a oldie Thanks Tabdog

The tabdog knows his round shot. This is a cast .32 for one of the earlier Colt percussion revolvers or perhaps a muzzleloading Kentucky squirrel rifle of small caliber. I'd go with revolver myself.

I collect and shoot Colt SAA and early BP Patterson's, Dragoons, 1951s and Army 1860 Colt revolvers. I've got .32 caliber molds too. Tabdog is correct.

Is that a casting sprue, or is it drop/swan shot? 0.23 is a very common size, give or take a few hundredths.

I once found one that size, turned out to be a 32 Cal ball. Verified by a local weapons expert.

Cool no matter what it is, isn't it amazing how small things can be that we find.

Could also be buckshot from a Buck N' Ball. Here is one I found with the Buck still fused to the ball.

Here is a post on them I made cause I found them also.But the bottom line is they are old shot usually dealing with spanish. This site I found was early 1600's to early 1700's

Whoa, that's some serious lead!

So, now, my question was about cast shot vs. Rupert or Drop shot, which usually has a little dimple, but can have a tail like a teardrop. Drop shot predates shot tower shot.

A accurate measurement would be cool on the What's It, too.
