My son found this small lock recently.

It say's "TUMBLER" on the face. It also has 2 Stars on the face.

On the cover, there is clearly a Crown and "VR" on it.

I have found other locks on the web with VR on it but they don't have "Tumbler" on it and I could not find any info on the maker.

Although I am sure this was a pretty common lock, I would appreciate information anyone can provide nevertheless.

Thanks very much,

Hi Tommy. Thanks for your reply.

Is yours more complete? If so, would you mind sharing a pic?

"VR" stands for "Victoria Rex", that is Queen Victoria. so the dating is round 1839 or 40, I can't remember to about 1901.

Yes, but Victoria Regina (reigned from 1837-1901 but generally 1838-1900 for marking purposes). Rex would be for a King rather than a Queen.

These kinds of padlocks were made in the high thousands and tumbler padlocks were around long before Victorian times too. If the 12-pointed stars are a trademark then I don't recognise it... but there were dozens if not hundreds of small makers that came and went during her long reign.
