I found this a few years ago at a site where there was a house from the early 1800's. Can anyone help with information on this odd buckle? I think it is silver. What could it have been used for?

True.dugupfinds said:I would tend towards a late Victorian rather than an 1900s date based on the design, specially if not hallmarked. Some late pieces were not hallmarked but most were post 1900.

The small slot is for the male end of the other part of the buckle that had a similar or matching design. used up untill the 1940's in that style. Yours is probable early 1900's. Very nice.
