Small scale smelter--Need plan.

If I remember right, Popular mechanics had one in their old set of Pop. Mech encyclopedias.. These were published in the 70's, and I pretty sure there was a plan in one of them for a refractory furnace that would melt a bunch of different things...
A library 'may' still have a set of them around someplace.. I had the whole set, but have no idea where they got stashed...

PegLeg, I didnt know you were Don Webb from the metal casting forums.. i lurk there.. i was recently reading about your technique for melting metal in the microwave. interesting stuff.

Yep, this is an excellent site. There's another site he is linked to, also, that is very good. I just bought a book of plans for different homemade melting furnaces and forges from a guy on eBay for a few dollars and a ceramic crucible from another source. Iron ladles and containers are OK for melting aluminum, but for copper, silver, and gold you're going to need either a carbon crucible or one made from a special ceramic material.

DOH!!!! i just gave a complete set away after my last yard sale
