Amazing find. I cannot imagine holding something that old in my hands. Congrats!

I wouldn't have a clue how they made it, but it's awesome for sure

I think someone used the smaller flan in the bigger die when they struck it. It is thick enough that it would not expand enough to fill the die.
Nice condition!

They were done shortly after the coins were made, and still manuble.....being that small is proberbly the reason all the detail remains. Great little coin.

That is certainly a possibility , but it would be very time consuming and very un productive. if you are correct then the date would be around 350AD when that was being done. as you say an interesting little coin. Hutch.

a great little coin ... congratulations!

I agree, most plausible explanation. It still happens today (rarely)

Some were roughly cut from large coins , this could have only been done when the coin was manuble(still hot) but most are on quite well-made, circular flans. 'The minimissimi are smaller still, 3-4 mm as a rule, but there is one of 2.5 mm and even one of barely l.5 mm, just why a coin would cut to this size, especially from a larger coin is still a mystery, as the minum or minimissimi had little or no value at all. It's thought however that these coins had a civilian, rather than a military use...Good topic.:icon_thumleft:
