Hey everyone, my name is Jerry, and I am a wood turner from Iowa. I make very nice pens, and recently realized that wood with a history has so much more meaning and is more satisfying to turn. I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find a small piece (1" x 5 1/2") of ship wreckage that I could stabilize and make into a pen?

I want the wood to have been obtained legally. I know that taking wood from wreckages is frowned upon, and might be unable to find what I am looking for. I would gladly compensate or trade a pen that I make with the wood. Sorry if this is not the place for this, but really feel like this page is excellent in knowledge around shipwrecks.

Thank you for your time,
Jerry

Welcome to TNet Jerry. Someone here will have an answer for you.

Welcome to TreasureNet Jerry. You have a very interesting hobby. I have seen pens like that and were very beautiful. I don't know about ship wrecks though. A pen like that could be a ticket to prison. How about safe woods like cypress knees, chestnut barn beams, and exotic woods from the lumber yard. Here's one off the wall. The floors in my home were salvaged from the ball room of the famous 1800's Grand Union Hotel in Saratoga Springs, NY. A lot of famous people like Diamond Jim brady walked or danced upon it. There may still be pieces floating around in the basement.

Jerry,
Welcome to tnet. I have 2 ship ribs about 4 ft. Long in my basement with tree nails in them. I've had them for over 20 years. If. You live anywhere near Phila. Pa. You can come and get one for free. Or I could send you a small piece. PM me and let me know.

Ed
