I found this little oval in Michigan last week at an old house site that was being re-landscaped. It was at least a mid 1800's property, and we found a few indian heads and a nice crotal bell there too.

I didn't think much about this little oval, but I kept it in my bag of finds from this property.

Then tonight I was reading Merf's post about his finds in the beanfield in Northern Illinois, and he's got a picture of miscellaneous items he found which includes the exact same oval with four tabs on the back (see Merf's post here http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,167883.msg1222962.html#msg1222962)

Here are the pictures of this little oval I found. You can still see a tiny bit of gilt on the front of it. Can anyone tell me what it is???

It's the gromet portion of a twist snap fastener... often found at CW sites and still made today.

Probebly not gilted, but possibly brass or even chromed if newer.
