The hole is about the size of a dime - too small for beer .

is it something used for cartidge reloading?

Hey yeah, didn't we see half of one of these within the last few days? Does it have a number on it? If it's the size of a dime, does it have something like .410 marked on it? If it is part of a reloading tool, and it's opening is the size of a dime, it seems like it would fit a .410 bore/gauge shell.

I can't really tell by the photos, but is the hole perfectly round or does it seem to be somewhat oval? If it's oval, it probably is not part a reloader.

Doesn't it say something on the chrome part of the handle? Every little bit of information helps with the ID, so please do tell what is printed on it. Thanks.

I can't find any words or markings on it anywhere . The hole is oval . I think the black part is ebony wood - the metal is nickel-plated brass .

Portable bubble blower?
Huge zit-popper?
Magnifying glass with no lense? ("it's not for eatin', it's just for lookin' through"-Chief Lone Waddy/Outlaw Josie Wales)
Tounge scrapper?
Spoon with hole in it? (Not good for soup...)

I am gonna guess an early optomitrist tool for holding up to the eye and measuring rotation or somthing for the eye. If you look at it the marks all sort of increment on a line above dead center or I guess dends on how you hold it.

I'm thinking it's a tongue depresser. Pre-popsicle stick days?

I think you are right..I was looking up old medical instruments and there is/was such a thing as a folding tongue depressor.
I saw a lot of instruments with simular ebony handles from london companies made in the late 1800s to early 1900's.
But....cant find any darn pictures :-[

I think those lines are there to provide some type of no-slip effect... also, it looks fairly newish... I mean, 1950s or newer??

I dunno...

You mean like this? It ain't a tongue depressor, though. This one is for clamping and aiding circumcisions, but it looks similar. Maybe yours is for a general examination to move it out of the way:

Not a twitch. Most twitches are made with a chain for cranking on a horses nose.

And too small for a castration ring.

:o possible for a smaller animal not of the equestrian persuasion

that site says just the opposite..

"Described as a clamp-like device used to hold the penis while performing the circumcision, this is a folding tongue depressor. Aihhh!"

Sorry. I misread it. Still wouldn't want it in my mouth, though! But it looks like the original pictures are of a tongue depressor.
