Small iron handle?

Hi everyone-

First post :) I found this on a site in MA where mostly mid-1800s artifacts were found. It's heavy iron, about 1/3 inch diameter shaft (gets wider and has a flat spot towards one end), about 3 inches long.

interesting find, but I have no idea what it is. Also: Welcome to the forum from Oregon!

It may be a cast iron handle to remove the "eyes" on an old cast iron stove.
Actually, I'm pretty sure it's too small for that.
