My 6 year old son found this in a section of our yard that has not been dug in for any reason in 42 years with his Bounty Hunter Jr. It`s 4" long, 3" wide and weighs .40lbs. It`s made of iron, it had a LOT of rust on it, I cleaned it up some. I live in a town in Rhode Island that was founded in 1642. I don`t know if it`s some sort of toy or decretive cannon, gate or door latch or what? Anybody know what it is?

Thanks, we have to get back out there once the ground thaws. There is a lot of iron odds and ends in this spot.

Is there a hole at the 'cannon' end or is it solid? If there is a hole, is it round, square, hexagon?

It looks like it could be part of a weather vane.

I added another picture showing that the end is open through to the area with the notch.

Thanks for the pic. I'm going with part of a weather vane or either part of a door latch. :) Breezie
