Textile magnifier. You can buy modern plastic version, used alot now days for stamps, coins and the uses stated above.
You have it folded wrong in second to last pic ,glass should line up with square hole.

I was just looking at it and held it toward my monitor,even though they don't line up I get a perfect square in the lens.

Textile magnifier. Looks like the same type I used in the oil field to gauge screen mesh on shaker screens.
