Small copper box

I found this small copper box near a barbed wire fence line on an old ranch today. It has a small round indentation on the top of each side. It measures 1 3/4" x 1' x 1 1/2" tall. Any ideas what this could be?

Sorry our answers can't be more glamorous but I agree that it's a fence post or furniture leg cap.
The indentations are crimps to keep it attached to the post.

If it was a post cap look for a post hole cache.
