Small clock hammer? Something else? Please chime in!

Any insight is appreciated. Found in a yard in one of the oldest towns in NJ. Nothing much else found however.

This is what I'm thinking, but maybe wrong. The little hammer between the clock's bells:

I done a search but didn't find anything .What you found look right to me .Didn't find any parts to a clock.But to move back and forth it would need to be that long I would say....Osage

nice osage,ive found 2 in the past,and was never sure what they were, about 5yr ago
they got scraped with the scrap brass

Yes it was the striker that hit the bell.You can do a google search and find all kinds of Grandfather clock mechanisms.The strikers very but gives you an idea of what your is.Some have more than one striker and bell.I would say it would be hard to get a time line they have been around so long.hope this helps ..Osage
