hey all,

anyone have any ideas on this button. I looked around the web but I can't get a sense of what elements of button design indicate age.

context clues - other items from the site have ranged in age from mid 19th century well into the 2000's

I think there was at least on house their in the 1820's and it is about a quarter mile from some rev war activity.

thanks

Is it a one piece or two piece button? Also - it looks like there are no markings at all... correct?

relicdude,

it seems like a really good spot - I pulled some old coins out and some other relics.

Montana

I looks like one peice with the edges folded in over itself. I think the loop on the back was welded on though.

thanks for the replies guys

I think the design is so basic it'll be hard to tell... but mid 1800s at the oldest is a fair guess... hopeully someone else knows better.

How small is it? How about a shoe button--you know those ankle high shoes women wore in the early 1800s (I was not around I heard stories)--the buttons they had tools to help them button. Could it be one of those?
