I found this small bullet today in a field near Aversboro Battlefield near Dunn , North Carolina. Just wondering if it is a civil war bullet or a post war bullet. I do not see any rings on the bullet .As you can see in the pics I compared it to a .54 caliber 3 ringer.Sorry I don't have any measurements to help with size or caliber. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks and happy hunting:tongue3: bullet 001.jpg bullet 002.jpg bullet 003.jpg bullet 004.jpg

Does it have any rifling marks as if it were fired? Seems to me I recall finding several similar to yours at wyse fork. I just assumed they were post war. although, yours appears to have some age on it. Maybe someone here can shed some light on it.

Kind of odd that these have appeared at 2 battle sites in N.C.

Let me look it up real quick in my civil war ammunition book and I'll post a pic if I find a match

Definitely not an 06 bullet. It appears to me to be a muzzleloading bullet but almost no way to get much closer without a measurement. ........ I take that back. The Cannonball guy or a couple more with TONS of experience are likely to give you a probable ID, but even most of our best will not commit without measurements.:icon_scratch: If any of you guys need calipers, a descent pair of digital ones are just around 20 bucks. I manage a shooting range and order them pretty often for folks who reload. They are a tremendous help on projectile and button ID's.
