small brass hook?

found this in Alton NH looks obviously like a hook but has no holes in the backing to attach it to a wall. any other idea what it could be or how old is

Looks like it was attached to an upright rod, soldered to a backing plate.
pretty small... for neckties/suspenders maybe

It does look like it could have been soldered or it slid down into a bracket attached to the wall.
