some kind of finial?

CartridgeBoxes finial.webp

It's not a finial to a cartridge or cap box they aren't made like that. The closest thing I've seen to that is a bottle cap that had a wire bale on the top and a rubber seal on the ball. The top I'm talking about doesn't look exactly like that though. It looks like it might be the cap to something but they way it's made the ball would be on the outside and the eye inside. Maybe a spring was hooked to it. Just a guess.

Do you have a pic of the bottle cap you were talking about? Any other ideas guys?

Interesting piece kiros32 :icon_thumright:

I think it's a lid and that a chain was attached so the lid wouldn't be lost. Maybe for a buckshot loader?

I would really like the Green Check on this one if possible. Any other suggestions? The pin hole on the bottom makes me think it was threaded to something at one point, but I know its not a button. And based on the patina and location it was found, I know it has some age to it.

I think this one is solvable and that it will earn a green check

A flintlock pan charger appear to be the right size.

Interesting thought man, but all of the photos that I have found of the pan primers have holes through the "ball." It appears to be the right size though...

I don't have a pic of the bottle stopper and don't think that's what it is. I'm thinking Stegner and Ironspike are onto something. Some kind of stopper , maybe not a sink though, that had a chain or maybe a spring that want through the hole. It's possible it had a rubber seal or wax or something like that around the lip. I wish I could be more help on this.
