Found this small piece of brass at a known Civil War battle site from the Red River Campaign in Northwest/ Central Louisiana! Not sure what it might could have been used for! You can see from the photos, it's got small teeth that would have been a "catch" of some sort or end piece to a strap! Any HELP would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your educated guesses! :)

It is a web belt/strap end. Too small to be a trouser belt. Maybe a knapsack strap of some sort... Post Civil War. Maybe turn of the 20th to WWI?

Remember many of the Civil War battle fields were used for military training for decades following the CW.

Here is a pic of US Marines involved in a reenactment of Pickett's Charge in 1922.

That could very well be! The area was used during the practice run, later called the Louisiana Maneuvers, just prior to WW2! I've found a 13 star Army pants button and 1943 Merc Dime close to this area! Thanks for the info!

It looks like the brass end of the small straps used to close a small ww2 shoulder bag. I used to have one I used when I was a young scout. Bought it at an army surplus store in the late 1950’s.
