This item was found 8" deep in Corpus Christi, Texas, a magnet will not stick to it, there was a small folded piece of paper in it but it crumpled when the owner tried to open it. Anyone know what this was for?

Thanks for taking a look.

Hi My Fellow TH'ers
That looks like a charm that you put a note inside and wear either around your neck or on a bracelet. I would think it would be one of those 'Best Friends Forever' trinkets that you just carry with you. Just a guess.

PS: Remember; Don't leave it in the ground!

Can you post a pic of the crumpled paper?

Someone had sent me the photos, so I don't have the paper myself, in his email he actually said that the paper crumbled, not crumpled, somehow I used the wrong word. Presumably it was unreadable when it crumbled but I'll ask him and see what he says.

I like the suggestions that it's either a pet ID or charm, I think one of these is probably correct, hard to say for sure which one. Thanks for the replies!

I have a very similar item, only a different attachment point (ring)
Got hold of it years back & figured it was a pill holder :dontknow:

That's why I'm leaning towards dog ID tag for this one, if it was for a charm or necklace I think it would have a small ring instead of the post which looks a little cruder.
