Small Accoutrement Plate Maybe ??????

I found this small plate last year but need help in identifying it....If it's even a plate.
It measure 1.5'' x 2'', made of brass and has evidence of a soldered attachment device on the back.
This was found at a site in Clinton, MS that has relics on the site ranging from the 1830s up until the 1940s.
Hoping someone might have a clue as to what it is....Thanks!

Looks like an old ID plate/tag. Looks like all the info is long gone. Try cleaning it a little?

The military had some oddball neck stock buckles that were about that size. That would be my best guess, especially with that closure on the back.

I like the idea of a neckstock buckle. It seems to fit the size and functionality, especially having the clasp remnant on the back. Thank you so much
