Well after hitting a handful of old farm sites today, I had nothing to show for it except for the Lockheed A-12. This was the predecessor to the SR-71 Blackbird. (more cool info on it here)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_A-12

I was just about home and could have turned right at the light into my neighborhood, but decided to turn left and hook up with Brett at a little park. Sitting there at the light, I could see him digging a plug, flopping it back over and walking on swinging. I thought to myself, "Is this what it's come down to?, digging clad at the kiddie park for a cheap thrill, cause you couldn't dig a wheat today if your life depended on it". Well the light turned green and I went for a cheap thrill. Little did I know that in 3 minutes we would be swinging in a wild frenzy to see who would dig the next old keeper.
So I hit the park and walked straight up to Brett, just as he's recovering his oldest dime yet. As we high five at least 10 times and are in still in shock, I turn around a couple steps and get a deep dime signal. Oh no, it can't be another one...well it wasn't, but it was silver.
I was glad to go home with silver and a new toy.

Ha! He got ya again Pops! But then again you got the cool toy! Nice digs!

Yep, those snap decisions will sometimes pay off in silver. . . and Blackbirds ;D

Glad you could get out. . . it was a perfect day

Yeah but at least this time I invited him to MY location, and he got some silver about 30 feet from my barber, and I didn't even yell out, "hey, get the hell out of my spot!" When I found the barber I said, "start gridding!". I thought it was probably going to be better that just the kiddie lot action (actually I never went in there myself). I did a little research before leaving my house and basically the area I found the barber and wheaties, and where my Dad found the rosie, looked like a good old spot. Up until that point I was pretty much "buzzing" around looking for any kind of deep signals. I could have just as easily missed that barber and all four of those coins might have gone unfound for another 10 years. We were still wondering if the place was filled... but now that I can see the date on my Dad's rosie, I think it probably is original ground.

Congrats on the oldest Rosie you can find Dad! I'd almost rather have one of those than a '45 Merc since I only have 2 rosies this year. Even though we gridLOCK'd that place down, I was thinking there have got to be some more finds there. I have a few ideas of where too ;-)

LOL ;D

Nice finds, John!!!

I'll take a silver Rosie any day!

Cool plane, too! Had a little excitement by me today - hear what sounded like a real loud helicopter coming over, got the camera, and had my jaw drop when a V-22 Osprey flew over at about 300-400 feet tops on its approach to Arlington Park for a demonstration. Tried taking pics, but I was too zoomed in & missed the best shot. I did get some pics of blue sky & only one pic of the whole thing as it flew away. It's huge! :o

Anyway, if you ever get to Omaha, hit the Strategic Air & Space Museum. They have an SR-71 suspended that is pointing right down at you when you walk in with the nose antenna just out of reach. (Like it's flying at you.) It's pretty impressive!

Hey Neil, that Osprey made about a half dozen passes over us last week up in Barrington and did one again today, probably on the way out there. Came across low overhead too! They sure aren't meant for surprise or stealth, you can feel 'em coming well ahead of time.

Thanks Neil! I was fortunate enough to see one of the last low speed flyovers of a SR-71. It was a couple years ago at the EAA AirAdventure show, up in Oshkosh. Unbelievable!!

I hate hunts like that... Cause they have been happening to me to much....too....

Silver it's a keeper though....

Lucky guy! I only got 1. :(

That worked out good for you John.
I know that feeling all too well lately. After a long day in the woods, I was itching to just dig a clad dime at a ballfield just so I wouldn't go home empty handed. At least you got a silver.
