Like most of the country - the weather here in Ohio has been pretty bad.
Two weeks of rain and snow with some nights down to 5 or 10 Degrees.
It warmed up the last few days and melted the snow but the open ground areas are still frozen solid.
I went to a old Cellar Hole in the woods (leaves reduce freezing) by a lake that's also a popular fishing spot.
Garbage everywhere - literally hundreds of bottle caps, pull tabs, beer cans and other trash all over.
So much trash there was three or four - up to ten targets under the coil at all the times.
Don't you just love people that go out in the woods and throw their garbage everywhere ! :BangHead:

Only isolated two good targets - 1935 D + 1943 Mercury Dimes.
Also found (17) newer clad coins.
Even with all the junk - it was still good to get out.

Good Hunting !

If you don't dig the trash, you won't find the cash! ╦╦ç

Well done on getting out and putting some silver in the pouch.
We have a 1/4"+ of ice sitting on everything this morning. Then a foot of snow on the ground.
No hope in digging for awhile yet.

Great job. You have a lot of patience. Congrats on the Mercs!
I’m looking forward to detecting when we visit our grandkids in Ohio. 👍

If an area is still full of trash, I know I will find something nice because most have GIVEN UP on the area. ╦╦ç

I agree 100% - if there's a lot of junk metal in an area (especially Iron) I take it as a good sign.
I've found countless great finds Iron infested areas where others just gave up.
Hunted where an old Church stood years ago - rusty nails and other junk in every hole.
Just hunted the area very slow - one step at a time - dug over (20) 1800's coins - many were Silver.

Nice!! I am surprised how good the condition of the coins are. I worked for a decade taking apart a restoring the first log home in the region erected in the mid 1700s. It became the mill house for timber after the main house was built replacing the mill house as the main house. It seemed real picked over. My friend had a metal detector that I used to search for anything worth finding. All I found was some really big pennies from around 1900 buried inside the foundation where the main room of the first floor was, and some buffalo nickels sandwiched between about 9 layers of linoleum flooring in the kitchen. We found a few secret hides built into the construction when taking the place apart, but they were all empty.

You get credit for taking the time to pick through all that trash. Congrats on the two very nice Mercs.

Yep, how people throw their trash everywhere..... actually people illegally dumping has been the number 1 source of meaningful artifacts both antique and newer in my relic hunting career other than the goodwill bins that is. Great coinage! Perhaps one day I'll find a merc in one of the dumps and bottle yards we frequent, lord knows I've found plenty of other relics from that time period and before, just not coinage.🤷

OLD HOMESTEADS are a great source of artifacts. That is to say, the dump areas. ╦╦ç
