This is my first outing since I got here in October. I just hit a park called Grand View Park in Ogden, thought at least I'll get some clad. Found a few pieces of silver while I was there. I have to hit the books to do some research...

On a side note, I was using my Roman Coin program I used in Germany. It worked out really well, had a few to many iron targets but I think I'll keep it for the extra depth.

Anytime you find silver. It's a good day. You did better than me.

Wow, I detected that park twice last year and didn't find one silver coin. I did find a small silver ring though. I think you had an awesome day for around here. I'm actually really surprised you got those there and a little worried that my DFX isn't going as deep as I'd like it to. Very nice silver! HH

Slim pickins? ??? You don't know what that means. Try searching for 2 hours and finding one wheat penny. Now that's slim pickins. Where I live all the public parks have been hunted hard (for 20 years). My son and I consider it a good day if we can pull one silver coin from a park after 3 hours of hunting it.

You sure did OK in my book. At least yu got silver to show for it. I was out with my daughter and we got 90 coins with on silver. So WTG and keep it up..Matt

Congrats on your finds!

When you said you used your 'roman coins' program, what is the kind of detector that you use and can you share your settings with us?

Thanks!

ARGH.... I hate to be a killjoy, but I'm in the USAF, spending 14 years in Germany, England and Iceland has made me a little spoiled I guess, hehe. I'm still tring to get used to hunting the new stuff again. Except for the trash, I think it is a little easier then hitting the fields in england for 10 hours and not find one coin, LOL. But man when you hit the Roman stuff it was like a endless coin spill. All these years and I never found a gold coin:( But I am happy to be searching for old money again here in the states....

Everytime I go home to Milwaukee it is a silver fest. My old hood is almost 150 years old and virgin. LOL, nobody will hunt it cause it's full of crack dealers. Every single house I search there has silver... Cool to be in that area.

So far, all my research has shown that 95% of anything old here in Utah is built over... Heck the area I live in has only been here since the 50's. I'll keep hitting it though.

Oh ya, sorry I use an XLT E-Series. I had a DFX and could not do anything with it. Then I got a minelab... No doubt it went deeper then my XLT but it was way to slow. So back to the XLT..... Might try the new White's but we poor Air Force guys don't make that much, hehe... Also hard to have money when I do this on the weekend as well...

SKi..

Yup, its a 51 and I think it's a Denver mint mark. The dimes are a 53 and 56. I have to get with Pennyfarmer sometime to hit some better sites.
