Interesting, my mind never went to a fob.
Someone must have had a very great watch, that they would have a numbered tag and go though that to retrieve it.
Then also using the term, To identify "ME"?
I dunno...

I wouldn't really think that it would be a watch fob....LOYAL PROTECTIVE INSURANCE CO. is a life insurance company.... ???

Thanks for the comments though...keep'em come'in!!!

I don't think a watch fob would be individually numbered, or that thin. Maybe for a person who has life insurance with that company?

Often times an employee would receive something like a company watch and fob as a gift for their employ for xxx amount of years, but I wouldn't think it'd be numbered like that...still, not thinking fob
The what would have been the opening or hoop, seems the shape for a narrow strip of leather to have gone though it...if you were to finish what it would have looked like maybe

Thats kindof what we were wondering also. Not wanting to sell anything...just wanting to know what it's worth!!! :icon_scratch:

I found a similar one but it's in a key chain style. It reads ( telegraph number to the preferred bankers life, Lansing Mich.) and on the back it reads (identification check no. 1007). I think from having the double strap hole that it might be some type of luggage tag. Nice find.

These late 1800's-early 1900's identification badges/tags were provided to insurance policy holders, and were designed to be clipped onto a suspenders strap. Of course, they could also be clipped onto a belt, but suspenders were more commonly worn in those days.
