These are mostly Dart Points and a few knives ? All surface finds around home the Glass trade beads are surface finds also from our old homestead . For size reference the slate Sierra Contracting Stem 3000 B.C. to 500 B.C. ? in the center is 3"inches long . The Case is 24" x 16" inches . The Elders liked slate and basalt . Wow..... we don't have that material here and I haven't yet found a single bead. Nice display you have allot of talent.

people used the rock they had access too. basalt fractures to a nice sharp blade without the traditional knapped look. but it is brittle too, being a sort of cousin to obsidian. it can also be ground and polished. where were your pieces from?

All northern California I have well made basalt points that have the traditional look .

most of my basalt pieces just look whacked into shape..sorta one whack here, one whack there and then maybe a grind. quick and sharp.
