Slate hand tool?

I find this while digging a very deep iron target. I thought it was a hatchet at first and was surprised when I found out that it is stone. Has the shape of an you and appears to be slate.

Possibly a hide scraper. But this sort of thing is way off my knowledge base.

Post it in the Native American Artifacts forum for a better ID.

If slate is common to area could be just a coincidence that it was there, if not common to area it would have to have been carried to where you found it, which could suggest it was used as some type of implement.

There is slate and shale nearby. It just looked too much like it had a sharpened edge. Thanks for all the input! I'm gonna toss it in the rock pile.
