Rocks in general are pretty plain on the outside. Long ago as a kid I figured that out when I started taking ordinary stones and simply sticking them in a sock and smashing them. Those ordinary rocks turned into fascination when I could see what was hiding inside. I don't ruin my socks anymore but I still enjoy seeing whats inside and its whats inside that often counts making an oridinary field stone a work of wonder.

Usually mineral oil. That's what we use in our shop.

I love naming my specimens too. I can see the dolphin and hellfire perfectly. One of the cuts looks like a beach sunset.
