Hit an old farm today earliest map showed a house in 1896 till 1980s . Turned out to be all junk but think the area was a dump after the 1970s. Cause it took me bout 3 minutes to find a spot to ground balance haha no seriously it took me a while... There was that much junk. Gave up after an hour in a half and 6 1/2 pounds of scrap metal.

That happens. My moms house dates to the 20s but has so much landfill junk in it, I've never been able to find anything. See you are from the Twin Cities. Got your snow shovel ready?

I know the feeling! In 1964 my grandma had a small two story house a few yards from where my house now sits. It burnt down & they put this place here which was passed down to me. My g-ma raised twelve kids in that house & one buried a box of jewelry in the front yard in the early 60's. In efforts to find that hidden treasure I must hunt the burn site as I do not know where exactly she done this? I consistently recover scrap with the occasional toy lol! I am new to the hobby but if there is anything of significance there, it may be worth the sifting? Good luck.

Up to 5", makes me sick!

I went up to my childhood home today which was in my mother's family for about 125 years and all I found was six pennies, and an old pocket watch that was it. The pennies were fairly new, actually I laughed as I dug them because I know my Pop must have threw them there just to tick me off. The pocket watch was buried a long time and everything is gone on it. I'll let it sit a few days then try to clean it up so I can see what it actually is made out of; I can't tell right now. But I had a good time and probably have two maybe three days there to complete the yard.

I have come to the conclusion that people had nothing a 100 years ago and what they did have they guarded it with their life. I searched a few old sites and didn't find any old coins which surprised me. I can see my mother digging up the entire yard to find a penny if she dropped it. I did find an old reflector from my bike, I smiled when I uncovered it; I knew instantly what it was and what it was from. An old Schwinn bike I had, it was the reflector from the rear fender. And in one of the holes I dug I found a marble, which was down about ten inches. I plan on going around the old out house to see if anyone came running out of their with their pants down and emptied their pockets in the process. LOL!

Yesterday, on a site I hit I found the lever off a repeating rifle. No rifle just the lever. And a few weeks ago, on the same site I dug up an old rusted double barrel shotgun, it was buried so long it was nothing but rust but still interesting. So I wonder why the gun parts here? I dug two arrow tips on this site too. I don't know but I do know there is a story here I just don't know what it is. This is the site that yielded a 1875 Seating Liberty Dime, and a 100 year old ring... I need to go over the site more; I am sure there is more stuff there I just need to look for it. But that dime was the ONLY old coin I found there, you would think there would be more.
