I found this digging at a colonial foundation deep in the woods, it’s about the size of a penny and it’s one piece convex. Thanks in advance for any info!

Circa 1830s civvy.

Agreeing, your "ornate" brass 1-piece "domed" button is definitely not Military. But due to seeming to have a raised-lettering backmark surrounding it's loop, I'd push your "domed" ornate 1-piece button's time-period back a few decades, to about 1800 into the 1830s.

If you can clean its back a bit more, enough to read the backmark, please tell us what it says, because that info could narrow down the time-range.

I tried cleaning the back side up but still can’t make anything out. Just a cool button!

As Cru and TCBG already confirmed. one-piece, cast brass, British-made civilian button c1800 - 30.
The design looks a lot like the War of 1812 British uniform buttons I find here in Ontario.

This one has been almost crushed flat by cows over the years. :laughing7:

Certainly an awesome find and pretty button.

What would be great is if someone was able to put together a display of decorative flat buttons that have a direct connection to military use for identification purposes!
