Merry Christmas everyone, I hope everyone had a happy holiday! Yesterday evening I was able to metal detect for under an hour, but felt like I had to go metal detecting anyway even if it was Christmas. I was happy to find a toasted copper, probably a halfpenny. Today I went again with my dad, and I found two more coppers, both pretty toasted, probably a halfpenny and a farthing. The farthing has almost no noticeable design, and the green crust is quickly flaking off. I think I can see part of a bust on the halfpenny sized one, but not enough to ID it. My dad came along today, and ended up finding a nice George III halfpenny too, in the top center of the photo. I think it might be a contemporary counterfeit considering that it only showed up like a zinc penny on his metal detector, both my halfpenny sized coppers were in the quarter range and my farthing sounded like a dime. All in all, I have had some pretty good luck this December at this site, you may remember me mentioning that I hadn't found a copper since 2016, I guess that has now changed! It just takes one good site!
I also found a cool colonial axe head in the same hole with another iron tool that I can't yet identify, some oxen shoes, a couple musket balls, tons of shotgun shells, and surprisingly no buttons.
