This looks so familiar. I know I’ve seen them a farm auctions. I’m torn between it being a tool for carrying water buckets, feed buckets, etc on a wooden pole (1 on each end) or a fitting for plowing with a horse. Anyone know for sure? Thanks

So much of the old stuff is hand made in a forge and sometimes things look very similar to other parts. I am sure that that hook that is bent back into the eye was made that way because it helps keep a chain(such as a trace chain) from flipping off when the animal jerked on it. Most likely in my opinion it was made to fit on the end of a single tree. That small hole in the cone part would be to put a fastener(rivet ,screw,or nail) to keep it from sliding off. This looks so familiar. I know I’ve seen them a farm auctions.
