Last month

Farmer: Hey, bro. I will turn over that field for you soon, I promise.

Last week

Farmer: I'll turn it over soon, I promise.

Today

Farmer: Oh hey, sorry... I got into the beer yesterday.:tongue3::BangHead:

Although it was hell detecting in the clover today, I managed to find some sweet keepers. I can't help but wonder what lies below, though... and I can't wait until he gives the soil a flip.

My buddy found an odd looking coin which had us both stumped. It ended up being a 1769 King Louis 1/2 sol! He's quite excited about that one. :laughing7:

1930 Quarter. Some rainbow tone on back, rusty-worn face on the front.

New Brunswick Half Penny and One Penny. I have found so many of these, that N.B. silver has to be around the corner.

Part of an old watch? It has a sailboat on it.

HAPPY HUNTING!

You're still finding lots of nice quality stuff!

Just think what you'll get when the plough goes through!
I wish i could tell you that the NB silvers were around the corners but as many will tell you, it ain't that easy. But keep trying with a positive attitude you may surprise me and yourself !

Nice selection of finds, and that elusive NB silver will show up one day if enough targets are dug that's what dreams are all about.

Some really nice recoveries there and I'm sure if you dig enough holes the NB silver will eventually make its way to the surface...congrats...

Good hunt Gio!

Great recoveries Gio, that's going to be an awesome field for you. Pound it hard.....real hard.
ZDD

Congrats on the silvers, always nice, and the other finds too.
At least you know it will be eventually plowed, and then you get get down to it.
See if you can get your buddy (D,?) to join and show us the french.

NB silver, I hope you do get one, scarce in the dirt as IH mentioned. As far as I know I got the only one posted this year ?

Thanks, Guys!

You're probably right, Rick. The chances are slim. :laughing7:

I will get in touch with my friend and have him bring the coin in next time. I'll take a pic for you guys.

Gio, I used to think it was all too slim once upon a time as well; things have changed, since the slim times I've discovered two NB 10c pieces in reasonable condition and a beautiful NB fish scale with a rotated die! They exist and are out there for the finding, living in the East helps a lot, but I've seen a few posted out of your neck of the woods also; keep the faith brother!

Pretty nice hunt, I'd be happy with that day. That farmer sounds like one of my uncles before he passed, only he was doing the plowing at midnight WHILE into the beer!

Not sure I chose my words carefully enough, I don't know what anyone's chances are of finding a NB silver, and did not mean to suggest your chances "slim". Just that they are relatively scarce. Comparitively to Canadian Victorian silver there are 18 quarters, and 28 dimes for ever one NB silver. I've not got a vickie quarter yet, and only 2 or 3 dimes, so I feel quite fortunate to have beat the odds, and got one.

I don't know these numbers, but would assume because of the length of time, and all the mintage years involved that there are a lot more spanish, and even french silver out there in the ground than NB silvers. I think IP said recently that there were "tons" of those 4 sol coins shipped here.

You certainly beat the odds with that 20 cent piece awhile back, and as we all know everything doesn't go "by the numbers" in this game, glad it doesn't as I hope to beat the odds again myself.

Good luck out there Geo.

Now that you mention it.......
It also seems there was a time when a Victoria 25c was the elusive find and we never saw one, then one day one showed up, then another, and so on Now I got a mitt full of those too, it takes a lot of holes at the right age/era site too. Don't expect too many colonials at a hundred year old site and vice versa

You guys are awesome. That is all.

As promised, here's the picture of the French coin my buddy found.

He thinks it's an 1771 King Louis XV, 1/2 sol d'aix.
