As said an USAF Service Coat button, the button has the seal of the USAF. It was used from April 1949 until about 1995/1996 when the current uniform was phased in. The button was held to the coat by a cotter pin, the buttons were removable so the coat could be sent to the cleaners. If the button is about quarter size it's one of the main closure buttons, if it's around dime size it's one of the pocket buttons.
